CHALLENGES CURRENTLY FACED

Despite the growth and support received, the Gaushala is presently facing serious financial challenges. Kalyani Menon has invested all her personal resources into safeguarding the cows, bulls, and the dedicated gausevaks, and has taken loans due to repeated relocations and emergency arrangements made solely to protect the animals. Although the Trust is now receiving donations as a charitable organization, the funds are still insufficient to meet ongoing needs.

Some of the key challenges include:

  1. Daily operational expenses have become extremely difficult to manage, even though many donors generously contribute towards feed and fodder.

  2. Gausevaks’ salaries are a top priority, as their dedication and round-the-clock care are vital to the wellbeing of the cows. Ensuring timely payment is essential, yet financially very demanding.

  3. The Gaushala is accessed by a 600-meter unmetalled pathway, making the transport of food, fodder, and essentials challenging—especially during rains. This also increases transportation costs and limits visitor access.

  4. The current cow sheds are built using tarpaulins and coconut leaves (ola) due to lack of funds. While functional for now, they are not durable and urgently need to be replaced with permanent, weather-resistant roofing such as clay tiles or sheets.

These challenges are not obstacles to the vision, but reminders of the urgent need for continued support to protect these lives with dignity, safety, and sustainability.
